How to Grow Coffee Plants for Ornamental Purposes

The coffee plant (Coffea) is botanically classified as a tree. Although it can naturally grow beyond 10 meters, its height is usually maintained at around 3 meters to facilitate fruit harvesting. Coffee plants thrive in the equatorial zone, between 23 degrees north and to 25 degrees south latitude, where temperatures range between 17 and 23°C and rainfall is regular. The plant flowers after each rainfall, with fruits maturing in about 8 months. Growing coffee for production purposes is demanding, as it requires constant care due to its delicate nature.

Coffee Plants and Other Indoor Plantings

You can grow coffee plants at home for ornamental purposes if the climate conditions are suitable. Small coffee trees add an exotic touch and vibrant greenery to the space, but they need proper care to prevent them from growing too large. The leaves are dark, glossy, and waxy, while the flowers, which appear indoors around the end of March, emit a pleasant fragrance. Coffee plants need plenty of light but are sensitive to cold and should not be exposed to direct sunlight on very hot days. Finding coffee plants for pot cultivation in local nurseries can be challenging. Those interested might consider purchasing them online, such as from Amazon.
